Extraction is the removal of teeth from their sockets.
There are multiple reasons for a tooth to be pulled out…
Common reasons would be a tooth that is too badly damaged, infections that can potentially spread to infect other teeth or crowed teeth that needs to be pulled out for proper spacing.

Procedure:

Your dentist will inject local anesthetic to the area where extraction will take place before pulling out your teeth. some people may need general anesthetic, which will make you sleep through the procedure. During the extraction, your tooth will be removed from its socket in the bone with instruments such as elevator, dental drill and forcep.

Simple Extractions: are performed on visible teeth. Most are done under a local anesthetic.

Difficult Teeth Extractions(Surgical): are performed on teeth that cannot be seen easily, because they have been broken off or they have never erupted. Surgical procedure will depend on the circumstances of the tooth, which includes bone removal, tissue removal, tooth sectioning and sometimes stitches is needed. Surgery is done with local anesthesia or conscious sedation.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions: are common among many adolescents. Wisdom teeth usually develop in adolescent years. A common problem that occurs in many people is that there are no room for wisdom teeth to grow. We recommend the removal of wisdom teeth before they are fully developed to eliminate some potential problems.

After Extraction Care:

After extraction, a piece of gauze will be given to you to bite on for 20 -30 mins. This will facilitate blood clotting. You can put ice pack on your face to reduce swelling for the next day. Avoid hard and hot food for the next few days and rinse with warm salt water 24 hours after surgery to keep the area clean. Avoid smoking or vigorous exercises. You can expect some discomfort after oral surgery that may last a couple of days. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drufs (NSAID) such as Advil and Motrin can reduce your pain. Take the drugs your dentists prescribed to you.

Call us if:

• You start to have fever or chills
• The bledding did not stop after 24 hours
• The numbness did not go away 3-4 hours after extraction
• The swelling gets worse
